‘24
Scrolling on social media around this time of year you will see a lot of the same things
“New Year New Me”
“New Year Same Grind”
“Getting to the bag all ‘XX”
And I just want to say I love it, I love it all. The vibes surrounding the new year are always so high, people are so hopeful about what they can become, they are excited to get to started on their goals, and they are sharing their excitement with others. On the other hand there are the individuals who are shitting on the people who are excited. I personally choose to ignore those folks because why are you hating on people who are excited about something? Weird behavior.
My New Year practices consist of reflecting on the past and envisioning the future. I personally don’t specifically outline new years resolutions but I do set up a vision board for the upcoming year and I ask myself questions to reflect on the past year. At the end of this entry I will leave you with a few journal prompts to assist you in your reflection and some to guide you into looking towards the upcoming year.
Before we get into the journal prompts I first I want to take a brief moment to reflect on my 2023 - and my goodness was it a roller coaster of a year. Literally have some whiplash from it. If you have been any part involved in my life you know it has had very high highs and some low lows. I don’t want to go month by month and outline everything that went on because we would be here all day. In a brief summary of 2023 I have kept up my lovely friendships, taken a step back from a handful of friendships, had my heartbroken, moved across the country a few times, bought a car, gone on good dates, gone on terrible dates, traveled a ton, saw 4 of my favorite artists in their headlining tours (Bryson Tiller, Drake & 21 Savage, Don Toliver, SZA), made new friendships, progressed within my career, helped friends through their times, celebrated love and life, and continued to work on and challenge myself to grow through the more challenging things that had happened. Although this year has had its trying times, I am incredibly proud of how I have handled situations and how far I have come. I am walking into 2024 knowing that during the next year of course there will be difficult things that happen but within those times there will be so much love, happiness, and reasons to celebrate life. I am incredibly excited to start the new year surrounded by people I love and continue to progress through life.
Journal prompts for reflection:
What brought you happiness in this past year?
One thing you are proud of and why do you feel a sense of pride in that?
From decisions that you made personally, what brought you dissatisfaction?
Journal prompts to vision:
What does living intentionally look like to you?
What are three affirmations you want to carry through this next year?
What is something you want to learn within the next year?
Below are some photo highlights of my 2023
