Destination Desires

On 12/18/2024, I went to a hot yoga class, and at the end of it, the instructor said something about being present (which, you know, they always do). But this time, for some reason, her words hit me like a bag of bricks—and yeah, I got all teary-eyed. Maybe it was cause it was 6:30 in the morning, or maybe she kicked my ass with the flow, but whatever it was, her message stuck with me.

I didn’t get the exact quote, but I typed this into my notes app: Your manifestations will happen when you’re happy with the present and don’t have destination desires.

Now, if you know anything about me, you know I’m all about manifestation. I love journaling my goals, visualizing my future during meditation, writing down my intentions, and taking action every day to bring my dreams to life. It’s all about aligning with what I want and making space for it. But even with all that future-focused thinking, I never forget to appreciate the now.

That’s why her words hit me so hard. We get so caught up in planning for the future that we forget to live in the present. And honestly? That message should be broadcast to the world.

I’m dating (yes, surprise, surprise), and I hear a lot of “I can’t be with someone until I do XYZ” or “I need to accomplish ABC before I can…” It’s a pattern, right? But this mindset doesn’t just apply to dating. It pops up in so many areas of life too—“I can’t move until I do XYZ,” or “I can’t start my dream job until ABC happens.”

But the truth is, happiness isn’t waiting for you at the finish line of some goal you set for yourself. It’s happening right now.

So, as we head into the new year, here’s my challenge to you: Stop for a second and take a look at what’s going on around you. What are you grateful for right now? What’s one thing making you smile at this very moment?

Instead of waiting for the “perfect” time or thinking things will be better in the future, what if you just focused on what’s in front of you today? Take a minute to appreciate the small stuff, the quiet moments, the wins that don’t need to be big.

Can you find one thing this week to be present for? Whether it’s fully savoring your morning coffee or just taking a moment to breathe, I challenge you to focus on today, not just what’s ahead.

xoxx,

B
